Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden

Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden is located is located on Gourd Island in Menglun Township, Mengla County of Yunnan Province. With three sides facing water, the island is connected with Menglun Town by a suspending bridge in the east and with Mengla Road by a highway bridge in the south.

Covering an area of 900 hectares, the garden has the largest area in China and it has more than 6,000 varieties of tropical plants, the most in species, integrating scientific research, science popularization and tour and sightseeing. Here you can appreciate many rare exotic and endangered plant species, such as the “Clock Flower” that opens and closes along with the sunrise and sunset; the “Dancing Grass” that responds to sound; the “King Lotus” that can hold up a child of 20 kg; the “Mystery Fruit” which is able to turn sour fruit to sweet; and the black rosewood that is worth 3,000 USD per ton.

Bubang Wangtianshu Air Corridor in Mengla

About 190 kilometers from Jinghong and 19 kilometers from Mengla county town, the corridor is 2.5 kilometers long and more than 20 meters high, the first air corridor in China and the highest trunk corridor in the world. Connected by the bulky iron chains between the trees, the wooden road surface is laid on the corridor, with ropes protection around. It is breathtaking walking on the corridor.

Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park

The park is 8 kilometers east of the Jinghong City and north of the Lancang River. Situated in a river valley of 720 to 1,355 meters above sea level, the forest park has an area of 1,700 hectares of which 98% is covered by trees, and is thus the largest comprehensive ecological place of interest in the prefecture. The park gives prominence to the features of primeval forest, wild animals and ethnic culture and custom. It is highlighted by three major themes: primeval forest, wild animals and ethnic folklore. And you can also enjoy and play a part in the local ethnic activities such as the Dai Water Splashing Festival, Aini capture marriage custom and the grand ethnic performances.

Wild Elephant Valley

The valley is in Mengyang Nature Reserve of Jinghong, 48 kilometers from Jinghong City. It is an area that wild elephants frequently appear. Walking along the high air corridor made of crotches of trees, you can not only enjoy the scenery of tropical rainforest but also watch the wild elephants closely. The wild elephants are more likely to appear at drawn or dusk. Staying one night at a “tree house” (a house built on crotches of trees or supported by stilts) in the Wild Elephant Valley should be a sensible choice.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Valley

The rainforest valley is located at the Menglun subarea of Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve, 10 kilometers from Mengla Botanic Garden. It has the typical landscape of tropical valley rainforest and an air corridor which is shorter and lower than the one in Wangtianshu Park, Bubang of Mengla. And here you can see the marvelous rainforest spectacle of “king of strangling tree”, spinulose tree fern, plate-like roots, age-old vines and curare trees.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Flowers Garden

The garden is inside the Tropical Plants Research Institute of Yunnan Province in Jinghong City. With more than 1,000 kinds of flowers and plants, the garden includes the Tropical Flowers Zone, Palm Plants Zone, Rare Trees and Grasses Zone, Fruit Trees Zone and Cash Crops Zone.

Xishuangbanna Monkey Hill

About 4 kilometers from Jinghong, this scenic spot is the paradise for monkeys. Here you can enjoy the primate animals and historical and cultural sights by taking cable cars and speedboats. The thick forest, tall bamboo and ancient trees, mixing together with jabbering of apes, singing of birds, dancing of peacocks, playing of pigeons and the limpid water, present a picturesque and harmonious scene of nature and human.
