Lufeng is the area where most of dinosaur fossil and most intact individuals and genus of dinosaur have been discovered in China and even in the world so it is acclaimed as the “home of Dinosaur”. Chuanjie Jurassic World Scenic Area of Lufeng offers various activities of popular science, entertainment, relaxation and holiday-spending.
The site is located at Danawu Village in Yuanmou County where the weather is dry and scorching known as “hot dam” in the area of middle Yunnan. Two tooth fossils of ape man of about 1.7 million years ago were found in the village, which are the earliest tooth fossils of human found in China. It has proved that Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau is one of the places that human once lived long time ago. So Yuanmou is considered the birthplace of oriental people.
The museum was built at the foot of Yanta Mountain, south of Chuxiong. Advantages of the terrain has been fully taken in the design and construction of the museum which is built in a style of combining the traditional houses of Yi people with the modern curly-tiled Chinese roof, giving prominence to both the feature of local ethnic group and the grandness of modern building. The museum has 7 exhibition halls, such as Hall of Ancient Extinct Life, Hall of Ethnic Group, Hall of Historical Relics and Hall of Samples of Animals and Plants, etc. and 12 exhibition rooms displaying more than 6,000 various kinds of cultural relics.
This garden is in the suburbs of Chuxiong. Ten-month Sun Calendar is a calendric system created by ancestors of Yi people which divides the whole year for ten months of five seasons and each month has 36 days, totaling 360 days. The remaining five-six days are festivals. It is one of the most scientific and accurate ancient calendars. The garden has the scenery of one lake, one waterfall, four squares, six villages and eight scenic sections integrating the display of ethnic customs and lifestyles, exchange of ethnic arts, and other entertainment, so it may be considered as a grand view garden of Yi culture.
Built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the pagoda stands at the Wenbi Peak outside the west gate of Dayao county town. It is a Tibetan style lamaist pagoda, the only one of its kind in Yunnan, a treasure of religious art and a beautiful symbol of Dayao County. The pagoda, with a height of 18 meters, is a solid brick pagoda including the base, middle and upper parts. The base is in a shape of octagon, the middle part is a octagonal column and the upper part a large hammer, looking like a up-side down radish.
The ancient town in Lufeng County, Chuxiong Prefecture, has a history of 2,000 years in salt production. The town has gathered and reserved various kinds of commercial and cultural relics of Central China and local area and has also preserved many buildings of Ming and Qing dynasties and early period relics of salt production. So it was known as “thousand-year salt capital”. The town has a total of 92 historical sites, including stone carvings, stone tablets, ancient buildings and ancient tombs, and scenic spots, such as Heijing Confucius’ Temple, Wuma Bridge, Zhenjue Temple, Age-old Salt Workshop, Dalong Memorial Hall, Wu Family Courtyard, Zhutian Temple, Feilai Temple, Juefeng Temple, Shilong Graves of Cremation, Neolithic Ruins, Dishuiqing Waterfall and Slabstone Street.
The town, 35 kilometers northwest of Dayao county town, has a history of more than 2,000 years in salt production. It produced salt and paid salt taxes as early as the period of Western and Eastern Han dynasties (206B.C.-220A.D.) and so people called it “white salt well”. Shiyang town and Heijing Town were the main places of salt production of Yunnan at that time. A famous Confucius’ Temple was built in the town and inside the temple stands a bronze statue of Confucius which is matchless in terms of its weight, size, superb casting technology and perfect preservation. The ancient town has become a sacred place for people from Chuxiong and surrounding areas to pay respect and offer sacrifices to Confucius. A grand memorial ceremony for Confucius is held at the end of September every year.
The town, 12 kilometers north of Yao’an county town, is surrounded by mountains and rivers and shaded by green trees and was built in a shape of Eight Trigrams. With a long history the town has many age-old buildings and was a vital strongpoint leading to Southeast Asia and India on the south Silk Road. The Longhua Temple of the town, with a history of more than 1,000 years, was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), one of the oldest and famous temples in Yunnan. Longhua Fair, held at the eighth of the second lunar month every year, attracts a lot of people far and near by its various kinds of entertainment, performances of folk songs and dances, and commodity exchanges. So it is an ideal place for people to visit during the festivals. Transport is convenient since the town is close to the Nanyong Second-grade Highway.
Located at Yaozhan Township, Lufeng County and 19 kilometers from the county town, the pass has a history of more than 300 years. It consists of four parts, Wudao Pass Tower, Old Street, residential houses and Sanhua Temple. Five towers had been built along the 750-meter-long pass and the post road is two meters wide paved by the local hard black stone. The traces of horse’s hoofs of those years can still be clearly seen after the weathering of the wind and rain over so many years. The Sanhua Temple is 200 meters from Lianxiang Pass.
The custom valley, 6.5 kilometers north of Nanhua county town, involves Dachahe Village, Xiaochahe Village and four other villages inhabited by Yi people. Here you can see the traditional earth houses, distinctive “girl rooms”, traditional ethnic clothes and adornments, and special wedding and funeral ceremonies. At the same time you can taste the food of Yi Ethnic Group, listen to the melodious sanxian, a three-stringed plucked instrument and enjoy the bold and unrestrained left foot dance.
About 3.5 kilometers southeast of Chuxiong Prefecture the tombs are at the second level tableland on west bank of the Qinglong River, about 30 meters higher than the water surface. The tombs, totaling 79, were unearthed from 1975 to 1976 with 1,078 funerary objects being discovered, mainly bronze weapons and the others are jade, agate, amber and turquoise articles.
