The old town of Qingdao features classic and modern Western architecture, while the Qingdao Seashore Scenic Area, located along the southern coast of Qingdao Proper, features excellent natural attractions, cultural relics and historic sites. It integrates hills, sea and urban landscape, providing a combination of natural landscape and tasteful urban development.
Qingdao Seashore Scenic Area extends 25 kilometers (16 miles) from east to west, with a width of 3 km, and an area of 8.4 sq kilometers (3.2 sq miles) on land and 5 sq kilometers (2 sq miles) in the water.
On the land, it includes such open spaces as Qingdao Hill, Signal Hill (Xinhao Shan), Astronomical Observatory Hill (Guanxiang Shan), Taiping Hill, Baguan Hill, and Little Fish Hill (Xiaoyu Shan). On the seaside, there are Tuandao Bay, Qingdao Bay, Huiquan Bay, Taiping Bay, Fushan Bay and islets, rocks and beaches. The scenic areas include Badaguan Scenic Area, Badaxia, Taiping Hill and Taiping Cape. The individual spots include: Zhanqiao Pier, Little Qingdao Islet, Little Fish Hill, Luxun Park, Flower Garden, Huiquan Square, May Fourth Square, Music Square, Yan’erdao Park, No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 Bathing Beaches, Seashore Pedestrian Walkway and sightseeing boulevards-Donghai Road and Hong Kong Road.
Badaguan Scenic Area is an open scenic spot mainly consisting of building groups of distinctive architectural styles together with quiet and broad avenues. It is colored a brilliant red by a mass of blooms in spring and summer and features its red maple leaves in autumn and winter. It is one of the most well-known resorts in China.
Little Fish Hill is one of the best scenic spots along the seashore. Although it is not high, it has marvelous view. From the top of the hill you can see a beautiful landscape featuring red tiles, green tree, azure sky and blue ocean.
Luxun Park is reputed for its distinct red rocks and elegant environment and is one of famous scenic spots of Qigndao Seashore Scenic Area.
Huiquan Square covers an area of 13.43 hectares and hosts drinking and fireworks during the Qingdao Beer Festival and many other international events. The southern part of the square is a musical fountain square, which is 100 meters long and 30 meters wide, the largest one in China.
Located in Fushan Bay, Qingdao Music Square is the biggest in China, featuring sculptures of famous composers. It is a wonderful place for outdoor summer concerts.
Located at Huiquan Bay, No. 1 Bathing Beach is 580 meters long with flat surface and no submerged rock and spire, featuring its integration of nature and the city and its coastal city appearance.
Seashore Pedestrian Walkway, with the total length of 36.9 kilometers, is an open scenic spot starting from Tuandao Ring Road in the west and stretching to Shilaoren Holiday Resort. The walkway links the main scenic spots, forming a unique gallery of seashore landscape.
