Art Galleries in Shanghai

Tian Zi Fang

“Tian Zi Fang” comes from the literature “Chuang-Tzu”, which includes a painter called “Tian Zifang”. It is reconstructed from the typical Stone-Gate-Alley Buildings of Shanghai, and now changes into a district gathered with fashion zone and innovative industry. Many artists of different countries and areas set their design offices and studios here. Flags of various countries flutter in front of the doors, just like a small-sized International Art Exposition. Many other art and craft shops, bars and restaurants have also entered in the area. It is the place of leisure for the domestic and foreign visitors to taste the people’s lives in Shanghai and to understand the multi-culture of Shanghai.

1933 Old Millfun

When entering the Shajing Road, a 400-meter-long pedestrian street, you are now on the long-lost bluestone road, with the street lamps set in the 1930s standing by the roadsides. This unique-style British architecture, built in 1933, is round inside and rectangular outside. It had once been the largest abattoir in the fast Asia. Through the creative design and reconstruction, the history and fashion get integrated here. Former basement today becomes a public square of leisure; old lair now changes to underground cellars one by one; previous beef-production plant currently turns into a Sky Theater which is irradiated by the magnesium light. While you are in the successive fashion shops, you may often see several industrial elements such as the iron fence during those years, just like you are passing through the time tunnel. If you want to find out the animated Shanghai 70 years ago, “1933 Old Millfun” is the actual museum with no signboard.
